Meine Neue Liebe: "Rufus" Leather Jacket

In general, I'm not really a leather jacket kind of girl. I have never even considered buying a leather jacket before, let alone coveted one! However, my roommate spent Labor Day in London and came back in love with the brown leather jacket from Twenty8Twelve (the one above, but in brown). She wouldn't stop talking about it, so I looked it up online, and what do you know? I fell in love with it too. Seriously in love. I had a dream about it. Honestly! I can't usually remember my dreams, so this was a big deal for me. (The same night I also had a dream about my senior thesis, which shows you what has occupied my thoughts lately.)

On Friday I went down to Bergdorf's to take a look at the entire Twenty8Twelve collection, and as I had sort of expected, was unable to resist the allure of the jacket. (My roomie, who started all this, was in fact able to resist it, but ended up buying a whole slew of other things. Too bad we're not the same size.)

The leather is so soft. It's buttery. It fits beautifully. In a word: divine. Just for good measure (since I am a leather jacket novice), I tried on a brown jacket from Vince that was nearby. It was also beautiful -- and had it been black it might have given this one a run for its money -- but the leather wasn't nearly as soft.

The thing about this jacket is that it has a detachable piece that runs up the middle and hooks around your neck. Hooking it around your neck is a bit of a challenge (since it's two hooks and eyes) and it also means that this jacket looks best zipped up.

The other thing is the price. It was $690 at Bergdorf's (it's $696.50 at My Wardrobe, $775.59 at ASOS; the Vince jacket was $695), and came to $720.19 including tax. Paying for this means going on a serious shopping diet on my part for a while!

But I think it'll be worth it!!!
